Meet the team: Vivien Schoepf

16 April 2018

Vivien is one of the new members of our international team. I have never met her personally but talking with her a bit for the interview was a very pleasant experience and I can't wait to meet her this summer at  Zarautz Surf Village. Who knows? Maybe I will learn some dance moves too!

Hi Vivien, can you introduce yourself to us?

Hey, I am Vivien. I am 21 year old student from Berlin. I have recently finished my Bachelors degree in Business and will continue in a Masters this fall. In the mean time, I am travelling the world (greetings from Buenos Aires!), as I love to travel and explore new places. I am a passionate Hip Hop dancer and I like to paint as well. I am always up for new adventures and working on my surf skills is definitely one of them. I first, learned the basics while on Inter-rail, and wanted to surf more since then.

And how did you find out about us?

I found out about Zarautz Surf Village while searching the web for surf camps and Zarautz just stood out to me. The pictures and descriptions are full of good vibes. Also, the location near San Sebastián is amazing, I have traveled to the city before and can’t wait to see it again!

Oh yes, San Sebastián is definitely one of my all time favourite cities in the world! Do you have a favourite place to travel to?

That’s a tough one… I don’t think I can choose one place, but I love Italy and since part of my family lives in China, I already have seen of some of the nature there which is always varied and incredibly beautiful!

So you were introduced to surfing on inter-rail. Can you tell us more?

On inter-rail, my friends and I decided to include a one week surf trip into our journey. We stayed in a surf camp at the coast of Portugal and had a great time. The feeling of standing on a board for the first time is incredible, and I am very curious to find out how it is going to feel after improving more and more.

Have you ever worked on a surf camp/surf resort?

No, this is going to be the first time in a surf camp. I do have experience from working as a hostess and promoter in various events and have taught Hip Hop, first at my High School and later at my university. From these jobs I have gained quite a bit of knowledge in customer care and managing and running events. Of course my degree helps with that too, but I would say that most of all, my hobbies and my travelling experiences will be helpful in creating a great atmosphere for fellow surfers at the camp.

What are you looking forward to the most this summer?

I will start off the summer with visiting some friends in different European cities, which I’m really looking forward to, but working in Zarautz is definitely one of my highlights this summer. I am excited to surf again, to meet people from all around the world and become part of a great community - and all of that is set at one of the most beautiful coasts in Spain. I couldn’t ask for more. Also, I am eager to improve my Spanish a bit.

One week there and you will definitely improve your surfing! What makes it so special to you?

I like the idea of surfing - floating on the waves on a board and controlling it solely through your bodyweight and movements. There is not much extra gear you need. You just grab a board and are good to go. In this sense it is similar to dancing, where you have to have a lot of body control and balance. And it’s always a challenge to anticipate and catch the right wave or moment, so that when you stand up on the board you always have a sense of excitement  and freedom. I love this feeling.

Yes, I wrote about it on the blog as well. Catching that one wave is the best feeling in the world! Anyways, let’s move on to the bonus questions!

One song to listen to for the rest of your life?

That would be pretty bad… But I guess I would go with Wonderwall from Oasis, a classic.

Which one do you prefer: A luxury breakfast or luxury dinner?

Breakfast! Then you’ll have energy for the rest of the day.

Luckily we have both in Zarautz. And last question. 3 things you’d take on a desert island?

I would say books and paper for drawing, good company and of course a surfboard!

Okay! And what is your key to life?

Every day is a new chance to be the best version of yourself, so take action!

Big thank you to Vivien for making time for the interview! Vivien will be waiting to teach you some dance moves, talk about travelling and be your surf partner this summer, so if you still haven't, book your surf trip now right here and join us in the best weeks of your life!
